Goodwood Course Guide and Statistics
The course at Goodwood
Goodwood is an undulating course on the South Downs with a six-furlong straight and a loop that lets races of different trips run mostly right-handed. The track runs downhill in places, and the bends are tight, so it suits horses that are quick and handy. The view from the stands across the Downs is one of the best in racing.
Betting at Goodwood
The tight turns and gradients make it hard to come from far back, and a horse that is held up can find trouble in running. Speed and a handy early position are valuable. Track specialists are common here, so a previous course win counts for a lot. In the big-field handicaps, such as the Stewards' Cup, the draw and which side the pace is on make a big difference.
