Simply looking at a jockey's strike rate (win percentage) is fundamentally flawed. A jockey who rides for powerful stables with heavily favored horses will naturally have a high strike rate, regardless of their actual skill level. Conversely, a brilliant jockey riding lower-class animals may have a poor strike rate but still be extracting maximum performance from their mounts.

Advanced Jockey Metrics

At Equine Intel, we move beyond basic statistics. Our AI evaluates jockeys based on their "Impact Value" (IV) and their actual over-performance relative to market expectations (A/E ratio). We analyze how specific jockeys perform under pressure, on specific track types, and with specific running styles.

For example, our models track which jockeys are statistically superior at setting the pace on the front end, and which are elite at executing late-closing rides. If a horse that requires a patient, late-closing ride is paired with a jockey whose data shows elite proficiency in that specific riding style, the horse's projected probability of winning receives a significant positive modifier.

We also analyze the statistical synergy between specific jockeys and trainers. Some combinations are highly profitable, indicating a strong working relationship and clear tactical communication. When our system detects a historically profitable jockey-trainer pairing being reunited on a well-handicapped horse, it frequently triggers an alert for our premium users.
